QuestionI have a peace lily plant that I've been trying to keep alive for about 3 months. Not only am I having a hard time keeping it healthy but now I've discovered WORMS!!! How can I get rid of the worms and do you have any tips to keeping the plant healthy? Is it normal to get worms or do I just have a BROWN thumb. I am also going to email a photo of the plant and the worms.
AnswerHi Taleya,
Thanks for the photos. Your peace lily looks pretty healthy to me except for a couple of yellow leaves that can be cut off.
Do you keep it outside? If so you might want to consider moving it inside where it will get bright, but indirect light.
The worms are there because the quality of soil used was not good. That does not mean you should replace the soil. However, if the pot does not have drainage holes, then you should replace the pot with a similar sized pot that does.
The centipedes in the soil will not harm the plant, but you probably don't want them in the house. Plunge the pot up to its rim in a tub filled with plain water. Leave it for 30 minutes. The flooding will force the centipedes up and out of the soil in search of air. Scoop them off. That should take care of all but a few strays.
If you email, a request to my address below, I will email, you a copy of my article on peace lily care.
