Bamboo Orchid, tiny silver bugs in soil

Question
I have had this Bamboo Orchid for 3 yrs now. It is growing well, thriving and even has bloomed once!Recently I changed the soil (store bought from Rite Aid)and soon after that I noticed little tiny silver like bugs in the soil. I am looking to know if this will harm my plant if so is their any natural remedy to get rid of these little insects or last resort store bought remedy ? I just don't want to harm my plant.

Answer
Rebecca,

You did not say what kind of soil it is? A bamboo orchid should not be grown in standard potting soil, it will hold too much water and rot the bulb which may be already happenining which is why you have insects. It should be planted in a very porous mix of either volcanic rock or orchid bark mixed with a small amount of porous potting soil. If you can locate nothing but potting soil you should mix 2 parts of perlite ( looks like little white styrofoam pellets) with 1 part of potting soil so the soil is very light weight and porous. Mix in a handful of horticultural charcoal and the insects should disappear. Good luck.
