QuestionI received a verigated ivy in May, it was in a four inch pot, I replanted it into an 8" pot and it did very well on a shelf in the kitchen. It gets morning southeastern light about 6-8 hours a day. It's pretty indirect light, but right after I got it, it loved it there. Then I moved it to my bedroom (north) it got wilty and unhappy. I moved it back to the kitchen about a week ago. I water it weekly, trying to watch that it's never dry. What else should I do? The house is mid to high 70s all the time.
AnswerHi Katie,
Moving your Hedera ivy back to the kitchen was the right thing to do. It needs lots of light so that the soil will dry out quickly. Moving your ivy to an 8-inch pot was a big jump upward and substantially increased the risk of root rot. You must allow the top half-inch to inch of soil to dry out in between waterings. It is hard for me to give precise watering instructions because I don't know how you repotted. For example, if you added soil to the top of the rootball.
If your ivy is healthy, I guess you can disregard my comments on repotting, but just be careful not to water too frequently.
The light and temps are fine. There is no reason to fertilize. So there is not much for you to do except water carefully.
