aloe care

Question
Hi Darlene- I have an aloe that I brought back to health about a year ago after aquiring it from a yard sale.  It has done really well up until a month or so ago when all the leaves started drooping.  All the leaves are green but just lay flat in the pot.  I recently moved it so that it can get more light.  I did repot it a few months ago into a deeper pot and I recently learned that the pot should be wider instead of deeper.  Any suggestions.  Thanks- Kelli

Answer
Kelli,

Sounds like the deeper pot is also holding more water and it is getting overwatered. Cut way back on the water. I only water my aloe every 2 weeks in the summer and every 4 weeks in the winter. The condition you describe is the result of too much water. If there is any water in the drain tray empty it immediately. If you repot it into a wider pot be sure to use sandy cactus soil for good drainage. Give it as much sun as possible and it will recuperate faster. This plant is from the African plains and likes long periods of dry, lots of sun and sandy soil. Good luck.

Darlene
