broken corn plant

Question
hi will, i have a corn palm which i purchased 2 months ago, it has 3 canes 6", 13" & 30" and is sitting in a 5 litre pot and never re potted. My problem is that it fell over and both top branches of leaves on the taller cane broke at the cane and just barely hanging on, also the leaves on the other canes are also turning brown/yellow. i have to admit I have had the plant on my decking for half a day at a time whilst watering, could this be the problem of the leaves dyeing and what do i do about the broken branches. your advice would greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

Adolfo

Answer
Hi Adolfo,

If the two stems broke off very close to where they attach to the tallest cane, then you are unlikely to get any new growth. If there is at least two inches of bare stem still intact above the cane, then they may produce new growth.

In either case, remove the broken stems by cutting them off cleanly. These cuttings can be rooted in plain water or damp soil.

Corn plants are low light plants and should never be outside unless they are in deep shade and fully protected from direct sunlight. Even indoors that should not be exposed to direct sun. That may be the cause of the yellowing. Improper watering may also be the cause.
