AnswerHi Sally,
You can prune your hibiscus now, but then you would be removing all of the flowers. So I suggest that you delay pruning until the flowers are finished.
The stems can be cut back to any height - new growth will emerge on the stems just below the pruning cut and grow upward from there. It is generally better to prune back more rather than less so there is lots of room to grow in.
