QuestionWe bought a bougainvillea bush about 6months ago... it was in a 3 gallon pot. We transplanted it after several weeks into an outdoor garden corner with southwestern exposure. It gets plenty of sun (we live in central Florida), and the plant seems to flourish, to a point. It always has green, healthy-looking leaves, but it will be covered with flowers for a week or two, then loose them all for 2-3 weeks, at which point new blooms will start coming in. Is this normal? What can we do as far as care for it?
AnswerMark,
It sounds like they are doing well if they send out new blooms again right away. It is normal that they loose their blooms and rebloom in cycles. They sometimes loose their blooms from either too much or too little water. Keep the water as even as possible and they may last a little longer. I do suggest fertilizing regularly with a bloom building fertilizer and sprinkle a cup of epsom salts around the base of the plant. Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate and it will strengthen the plant. Good luck.
