QuestionHi Darlene.
I keep reading about a homemade fertilizer that is made from a 12oz can of beer (not light), 1 cup of epsom salt, half cup of ammonia and two cups of water. Some people add a half cup of black strap molasses and 4 tablespoons of bloom booster. It's then mixed and one tablespoon is used per gallon of water for a once per month feeding.
Are you familiar with this type of fertilizer? Do you know how effective it is?
AnswerAmanda,
I have heard of it, I have not used it. It would be effective although I would use I tablespoon per gallon of water per weekly waterings. Monthly sounds a bit weak. I would be a bit concerned that the sugar in the beer and the black strap molassed might attract insects. I find plain old Miracle Grow or one of the cheaper generic versions to be the easiest and most effective fertilizers. If you do decide to try it let me know how well it works for you. You might try it weekly on some plants and monthly on some and see if you can tell the difference.
Good luck.
Darlene
