Thanks for the photos. Your umbrella tree is also known as Schefflera arboricola. It should be very close to an uncovered window. Allow the top two inches of soil to dry out and then water it thoroughly until some water trickles through the drainage holes. The loss of some lower leaves is inevitable, so just remove them as they turn yellow or brown.
You also mentioned treating a Pothos for mealybugs. If they return, you can spray them with a solution of 5 parts water, one part rubbing alcohol, and a squirt of liquid dish soap. Be sure to get all leaf and stem surfaces dripping wet.
