QuestionI have tropical plants and a rare wollemi pine. I have noticed that the tips of their leaves are turnning brown and some palms are others are turning yellow.
Whats happening? How do I cure them?
AnswerHi Michelle,
The most common cause of brown leaf tips is too low humidity. You can raise the humidity around a plant by placing it on a tray filled with pebbles and water.
Another common cause could be water quality. A lot of plants are sensitive to fluoride found in most tap water. Chlorine, lime and other deposits in hard water can cause problems as well. Since most filters do not remove fluoride and do not remove enough of the other impurities, the best thing to use for watering plants is distilled water.
Improper watering can cause brown leaf tips sometimes. Make sure you are watering your plants correctly. As a general rule you should allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry between watering then water the plant enough that a small amount water drains from the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
Tracy
