QuestionI have a yucca cane plant and I've had it for 2 months now. up 'til this point, the plant has been doing fine, but some of the leaves are turning yellow, starting from the lower leaves upward. any suggestions as to why this is happening?
AnswerHi Thomas,
Yellowing of lower leaves can be just normal aging. There are several reasons for yellowing leaves. Over or under watering is the most common cause. As a general rule you should allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry between watering.
Too low humidity can cause yellowing leaves. You can raise the humidity around the plant by placing it on a tray filled with pebbles and water.
Protect the plant from drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Too much or too little fertilizer can cause yellowing leaves as well. If you have not fertilized the plant since you have had it and the plant is in an active growth cycle then you may want to give it a little fertilizer. I recommend using 1/3 the strength called for on the label. If you use a liquid fertilizer dilute it 1 part fertilizer to 2 parts distilled water.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
Tracy
