RE : indoor plants

Question
I am living in Malaysia and my new home has an indoor garden area which is about 15'x13' and is well ventilated except of the sunlight which is very, very minumum. I wish to have plants planted directed into the soil.  I would like to know what kind of plants or tress that can be planted indoors.  Hope you could help me in this matter.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Annie,

Yours is an unusual situation. I recommend that you not plant indoor plants directly into the ground, as you would with outdoor plants. It would be better to excavate holes into which you could then place indoor plants that remain in their pots. Indoors in reduced light, plants do best when their roost are confined to a pot.

As for what kinds of plants would do well indoors, it really depends on just how much light you have. You wrote that it is "very, very minimum." I am concerned that that may not be enough for any plant to survive.

Please describe for me where the plants would be relative to the nearest window and which direction that window would face and whether or not the window is covered, partially covered or uncovered. Only after I have assessed the light can I recommend specific plants.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions. If you would like to e-mail me some photos, I may be able to provide some additional insights.
