QuestionHi, I have a few variety of Jade plants and have noticed some of them drying up on the stalks. One plant in particular has an almost complete dried up piece of stalk but has new growth. What is happening here and can I fix it? Also, I know not to water new clipping but the leaves aren't fleshy any more. Would it be ok to just mist the leaves so they can get some moisture? I recently purchased a 20" Hummel Sunset clipping and have noticed one of the branches drying up but the clipping has no roots as of yet.
AnswerTricia,
I don't totally understand your questions. When you take cuttings of jade plants you let them lay on a table to air dry for 7-10 days until the cut edge is totally healed over. You do not have to wait for it to grow roots. When it has healed you insert it in a pot of 1/2 sand and 1/2 potting soil. Water it lightly. Set it in a sunny window and water it whenever it is very dry, about every 2-3 weeks. The cutting should grow new roots in 6-8 weeks. The best time to take cuttings on most houseplants is between April 1st and June 15th. You can mist it, just do not keep it sitting with a drain tray full of water. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
