Money Tree (Pachira aquatica)

Question

Will,

I've a couple of money trees that aren't doing well. Their leaves tend to brown and become almost transparent, despite my attempts to water up/down according to soil moisture (I wait until the first 1-2 inches down is dry). I've no obvious scale or bug problems... just withering/browning leaves.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Larry

Answer
Hi Larry,

Money trees are very popular right now and growers are seizing the moment and flooding the market with them. They come in many different sizes and shapes. The quality varies considerably and that can make a big difference to the end-user.

Unless your money tree is in a very large pot, then you probably should not be letting to soil dry out quite so deeply. In addition, you didn't mention the available light, so that could be a problem.

It would be a big help if you could email a photo to me at [email protected]. Otherwise tell me the height of the tree and the width of the pot.

Did you repot it? How close to the nearest uncovered window is it? Do you use a moisture meter to determine soil dryness?

I look forward to your reply.

Regards,
Will Creed
