Aloe Vera plants / Upright elephant ear plant

Question
Hi, i have a some of questions for you.  First, How do you root an aloe Vera plant/pup?  Almost all of my aloe Vera pups are growing without roots, is this normal?, will they eventually grow roots?  Secondly, My Aloe Vera pups also have thin leaves, they do not feel full like the other the other plants.  How do i get them to become full again?  Lastly, how long does it take for an upright elephant ear bulb to send up leaves?

Answer
Brian,

You must give your aloe pups more time to grow roots, wait till they are at least 2-3 inches tall and they should have roots if you gently remove them from the soil. At that size the leaves should be thicker and healthier also.

Your elephant ear plant depends on your climate and when it went dormant last fall.  It will send out leaves when it is ready to grow again after it's dormant period. If it is planted in a pot it will send out shoots when it is ready depending on when it went dormant last fall. It needs 4-5 months of fairly dry dormancy. If you water it before the tuber starts to send out shoots you run the risk of the tuber rotting. If you plant it in the ground  before it is ready you run the same risk. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
