QuestionCould you suggest any other plants that have a similar style? I was watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and there was a beautiful plant with big green leaves. They were standing straight up not down like an elephant ear. Thanks for all your help.

-----Question-----
I was reading some responses on questions about Elephant Ears. They all said that Elephant Ears need lots of sun. I was looking at a plant nursery website and the chart says they could go from full sun to full shade. Wouldn't that make them optimal for a house plant?
-----Answer-----
Frank,
They are a bulb which does do best in full sun and it does need an occasional dormant period. It will survive indoors in a very bright location during the winter when the sun is low in the southern sky and shines in south windows well. During the summer when the sun is high in the sky and does not shine in windows well it will not get enough light. Outdoors in full shade it still gets a lot of light some part of the day either morning or evening. The less light it gets it will be more subject to being overwatered and to being prone to insect and fungal attacks. Good luck.

AnswerFrank,
My suggestions for large floor plants that will work indoors year around would be a large dieffenbachia (picture at http://home.scarlet.be/~tsh77586/DiefAmoe.jpg), or a large dracaena (check out http://dracaena.com). There are several kinds, look at each one on that website. Both of those types of plants do well indoors year around and do not like sun actually shining on them. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
