QuestionHello Darlene I have a palm tree that I bought at home depot and I have had it for about a year. It has been doing great until about a month ago all of the leaves on the entire plant started turning brown. I have it in a bright sunny window and I have always givin it a bath about once a month. So I started messing with the soil to see if there were bugs of some sort and out came this tiny franic crawling centipede or millipede. could this be killing my plant?
AnswerBobbie,
I doubt that he is the problem. Insects in the soil are rarely a problem for plants but are there becuse the plant has been overwatered and the plant may be in poor soil that has too much peat moss causing it to hold too much water. Toio much water may be causing root rot.
Palms do much better in a sandy cactus soil that doesn't hold so much water. That is why palms to well in Florida, California and Hawaii, sandy soil. If it is not too late you can try repotting it into the same pot using sandy cactus soil. Good luck.
