QuestionI live in south Texas and am about to prune my plant. I have the plant located outside in a place where most of the day is in full sun. Can it get too hot for the plant in 105 degree F weather? Should I replant in less sunlight?
AnswerStar Jasmine! I LOVE this plant - "Trachelospermum jasminoides" to botanists - has a whole family tree of fragrant relatives including Plumerias and Oleander. Not however Jasmine.
This is a very popular vine in California, Florida and Louisiana, where it will take temperatures that would fry fry an egg.
The USDA Plants Database (http://plants.nrcs.usda.gov/cgi_bin/topics.cgi?earl=plant_attribute.cgi&symbol=T...) points out it needs slightly acidic soil and ZERO compatibility with CaCO3 - limestone. It has NO tolerance for salt water --you would get nothing but headaches trying to grow this at your tropical weekend ocean retreat, and artificial fertilizers will quickly deteriorate any potted specimens due to bases derived from Urea and other chemicals. Capeech?
Your outdoor location will need deep, deep cultivating for the roots, at least 12 inches. The full sun location... PERFECT!!!!
My advice: DO NOT DISTURB.
