Corn plant pruning

Question
We have a corn plant that has outgrown its' space and would like to cut it back.  It is a single stalk pot that was cut at about 36" and has 2 off shoots. (Forgive my nomenclature)One is well over 5 ft considering the lean and the other is around 3.5 ft.  Can I succesfully remove the long stem, straighten the stalk and start from there?  Also can this plant be rooted to start a new one?

Answer
Hi Bart,

If I understand your question, the answer is, yes. Corn plant stems can be cut back at any point on the stem. New growth will then emerge just below the point where you make the pruning cut.

The cut-off portion can be rooted in water or in a small pot filled with a damp, porous potting mix. Shorter tip cuttings root more readily than longer cuttings.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions. If you would like to e-mail me some photos, I may be able to provide some additional insights.
