QuestionI have 2 of these Dracaenas at different locations, both of which have done well for at least 3 years. I repotted one which now develops brown spots on all leaves including new growth. The other, which is in its original container, and planting medium, shows browning on the margins of the leaves, both old and new growth.
What can I do to restore them to health, if anything?
Thank you for your expertise!
AnswerHi Pam,
D. deremensis are very prone to leaf spotting and brown tips and edges. There are several possible causes.
*Allowing the soil to get too dry.
*Buildup of excess soil salts by using hard water or too much fertilizer. Using perlite and superphosphate fertilizers are also sources of mineral buildup.
*Soil pH becoming too acidic.
*Roots wandering out of the drainage holes or massing in the base of the pot.
All of these causes develop gradually over time so the symptoms do not show except on older plants. Once the leaves have discolored, their green color will never return. Once you have taken steps to correct the problem, you should trim off the discolored portions as best you can.
If you are unsure just how to remedy any of the causes I have described, let me know and I will help you.
