QuestionWill,
I have what use to be a 5ft bird of paradise plant indoors, a ft away from the window. Location is in NYC, normal light from the window, not too sunny.
I water the plant one time a week with about a liter of water, everything was Ok for about a month after I got the plant, it was nice and green, even showed a new leave that was trying to come out. It is in the same pot that I got it from Home Depot. I didn't repot the plant.
Now it is about half the size after 3 months.
The leaves start getting yellow in color then dry up.
The plant is not as firm as it was before and not as green.
The bottom portion towards the soil has turned darker color.
The pot does have a hole for the water to drain out.
What can I do?
AnswerHi David,
As a long-time NYC resident, I know how much light from a window can vary. Can you tell which direction the window faces? If there is a tall building outside the window? And if the window is completely uncovered during the day?
How dry is the soil just before you water?
How wide is the pot?
Have you seen any signs of plant pests?
Finally, can you email a photo to me at
[email protected]? The photo should show the entire plant, including the pot.
I look forward to your reply so I can help you.
Regards,
Will Creed
