no blooms

Question
My mother-in-law has a peace lilly that she has had for several years and the leaves are really small and it has not bloomed in years. can you help me to bring this plant back?

Answer
Hi Sara,

If the newer leaves are noticeably smaller than the original leaves, then that is a sign that the peace lily is getting less light than it did before. If it does not get enough light, then it will not flower. Peace lilies do best in very bright, but indirect light, such as you get right on a north windowsill or close to an east or west window.

It is also important to keep a peace lily potbound if you want it to flower otherwise the plant's energy goes into filling the pot with roots rather then making flowers.

If the plant is healthy, then fertilize it monthly at half strength using a fertilizer with a high middle number (15-30-15, for example).
