QuestionIn decorating our church in MA for the Easter season, would you please suggest plant varieties for an extremely low light environment. Lights are on most days for a few hours only (Sundays 6 hrs). For flowering plants, we usually get lilies, tulips & hydrangea. Green plants are Gigantica spaths, variegated arrows and pothos. Are there more appropriate plants? Are there any flowering ones that will last longer than 3 wks.? The green plants are good, but lilies are the only flowering ones that last.
Any help you can provide is deeply appreciated.
Thanks,
Carol
AnswerCarol,
Blooming plants do not live without good light all day, 3 weeks is doing good. Peace lilies do well with low light but they cannot be in the dark most of the week. Is there no place they could be moved that they would get sun when the lights of the church are off? Carts they could be set on and wheeled to clear glass windows? Cast iron plant is a green plant that does well in low light but not in the conditions you describe. They could also be put in an area with a 4 tube flourescent light over them. Good luck.
