aloe vera troubled

Question
I have an aloe vera plant indoors, which is over a feet long, and it has been feeling happy and growing all the summer, but now in autumn a weird thing started - the bottom leaves began to turn yellow/brown and dry out. I have cut off several of them but next lower leaves get like that again, while the top of the plant looks fresh and happy. I don't think I'm watering the plant too much at all, but maybe too less then? Maybe the pot is not big enough? I hope it's not some kind of disease :( I would be really happy if you could help with an advice for I feel really sorry for the plant!

Answer
emma,

How much light is it getting? It needs to be in front of a south facing window with blinds or drapes open all day so it gets the maximum light possible.

It may also be a sign of underwatering, you did not say how often you are watering it. Try increasing the frequency of water a bit but be careful, overwatering kills faster than underwatering. Water it after the surface of the soil has felt dry for 3-4 days.

It may also be a sign that it is getting older. They lose a few lower leaves as they age then start sending out babies from the roots. When the babies are about 2-3 inches tall they can be removed carefully and potted up separately and treated like the parent. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
