QuestionI have a wonderfully full golden evergreen (I think that's what it's called). It's growing rapidly and has been for years. It spouts new plants from it's roots 6 or 7 times a year. But the orignal plants are so tall they are tipping over and breaking. I want to save the original shoots. I've tried tying a bag of dirt high on the tall stems (like I've done with other plants) but they're not growing roots. One shoot broke and I put it in a bucket of good soil and lots of water. It's still alive but It's not growing roots. What is the best way to root this plant? Any suggestions? Thank you so much.
AnswerHeather,
This is not the best time of year to air layer of take cuttings. It works best between April 1st and June 15th when the days are longer and roots are in active growing mode. You might pick up a small bottle of rooting hormone and dip your cutting in that first to encourage faster rooting. Or just be patient. As the days get longer it will root faster. Good luck.
