ZZ Plant trimming

Question
Hi!  We have had a zz plant for a couple years. Our kplant has grown about 2-3 feet and continually has new shoots.  How do I go about trimming it?  I did it once and actually got those trimmings to develop roots in water.  I have since successfully replanted those clippings.  The place where I trimmed the plant though has not seen any further growth.  Should I not trim or trim differently?  Thanks, Debbie

Answer
Debbie,

A ZZ plant is a very unusual aroid palm. Most palm trees you cannot cut off half a frond and root it. A zz plant you can, in fact you can cut off one leaflet and grow a whole new plant. However if you cut off a leaflet or half a frond for rooting it will not replace that leaflet or half a frond. It will send out new fronds but it will not fix the damaged one. If you want to grow new plants you can prune, it will not hurt the plant but will leave the damaged frond. If you do not want to start new plants I would not prune. It will not improve the  plant. If you have more questions feel free to write again.
