QuestionHow much should you water the plant? How should you re pot the plant? Thank you.
AnswerHi Tina,
Asparagus ferns should be watered thoroughly (until some water trickles through the drainage holes) as soon as the top half-inch of soil feels dry to the touch.
Asparagus ferns develop large, bulbous roots that can cause them to become rootbound sooner than other plants. If the plant dries out enough to need water again within 3 days following a thorough watering, then it is ready to go into a pot one size larger.
When you repot, uses a fork to scratch loose the roots that are wrapped around the outside of the rootball. This will help them integrate into the new soil more readily. Add an inch of soil to the bottom of the new pot. Set the loosened rootball in the center of the pot. Fill in the sides with fresh soil. Do NOT add soil to the TOP of the rootball. Water thoroughly after repotting.
