QuestionDear Will. We live in Denver and we purchased this small tree last spring and it lived in its pot outdoors for at least 5 months. It grew well (no blossoms) and we moved it indoors to a southeast facing window in September. It's done very well including lots of blossoms which we've pollinated and it developed six or seven small fruits. However here is our problem. The leaves started dropping and now while it still has new blossoms coming on, the fruits are now dropping. Could you tell us what we're doing wrong? Thank you for your expertise.
Craig
AnswerHi Craig,
Getting Citrus trees to produce fruit indoors is very challenging. You have gotten further along than most.
Any number of environmental conditions can cause leaf and fruit drop. The most common cause is keeping the soil too moist. This can happen if you don't reduce the watering frequency when you move it indoors where the light and growth light are reduced. So try letting the soil get drier in between waterings.
The reduction im light, dry indoor air, and exposure to cold drafts can also cause fruit and leaf drop.
