QuestionWe have a Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree that we've had for 22 years. It has always been healthy and has grown to be about 9' tall. Recently (last three to four weeks) it has been developing more yellow leaves than normally. I have been removing 6 to 8 dead leaves every couple of weeks now. This is unusal for this plant. What could be wrong? I'm concerned that if I don't do something to correct this, that it will continue and will eventually die. We have not moved it from it's location, next to a window for 4 years. Initially the dying leaves were just at the top of the plant, but they are now moving toward the bottom. Thanks for your help!
AnswerDiane,
This is the time of year that they drop leaves to make room for new ones. Be careful not to overwater it, that causes yellow leaves fast. Being bone dry for a few days can also cause yellow leaves. This time of year with short days it won't use as much water as during the summer so you do need to cut back so it gets dry between waterings but not for too long. Be careful with the watering but otherwise I wouldn't worry too much. Like I said this is the time of year that they drop leaves to make room for new ones. Good luck.
