QuestionHi. During the summer I bought a sago palm in a 6in pot as a houseplant. It has 2 leaves on it and it started to grow a new leaf up the middle and seemed to be doing fine, then the new leaf stopped growning and died. The other 2 leaves are still fine. My question is how do I take care of this plant properly and get it to grow? It didn't have an identification stick in it and I had to look it up by what it looked like. any help will be appreciated! :)
AnswerHi Casey,
The loss of an older leaf is not a particular cause for concern. The loss of a new leaf is. Usually this is caused by too little light or too much water.
This plant likes bright indirect light and tolerates direct sun. It is not a good low light plant. It does best right in front of a window that is unobstructed.
It should be maintained in a small pot and the top quarter of the soil should dry out in between thorough waterings. It will grow in high or low humidity. Fertilize sparingly and only when it is growing actively.
If you are unsure of its identity, email a photo to my address below and I will ID it for you.
