QuestionThanks for getting back to me Darlene.
The watering is about every three weeks. I was thinking of roughly every 19 - 23 days. They're all in cacti / succulent soil with extra perlite added.

-----Question-----
Hi Darlene.
I've been reading through your past answers about jades and they have been very helpful. So here goes...
I have a dresser that I am keeping my succulents on. It's pushed against a window that faces southeast. My particular concern is about my aloes (squarrosa, vera and gold tooth) and jades.
I have two clip-on lamps with 25w compact fluorescent bulbs in them. They put out 100w. I've been using them for three days now. I'm wondering if I should increase my watering because of the addition of the lights.
The aloe vera hasn't been growing much lately. It appears to be dormant. The aloes squarrosa and gold tooth aloe have been growing slowly but steadily though. All the aloes are in 3.5 inch pots.
Now the jades...
One jade is in a 2" square plastic pot. It's about 4 inches tall. It's starting to wake up. I've just started to see some budding. I received it on October 31. In another 3" pot there are three jade cuttings that I potted on Nov 10. They're maybe 4 inches tall. They're budding like crazy. I have five more cuttings in a 6" pot. They're 7 - 8 inches tall. I also started those on Nov 10. They have been budding like crazy. In fact there are already a bunch of small leaves.
The jades about about 8" away from the lamps. The aloes are maybe 4" away. I was planning on watering them roughly every three weeks (every 19 - 23). The jades are about 8" from the window and the aloes are about a foot away.
Does that watering schedule seem ok to you?
Should I reposition the plants? Do the aloes need more light than the jades?
I live in southeastern Michigan, near Detroit.
Thanks Darlene.
BTW, the lights stay on for 14 hours. Except for the one jade in the 2" pot, they are all in clay pots.

Amanda,
The light is fine for both aloes and jades. Everything sounds fine except watering every 3 days. That would depend on the soil they are in. If it is regular potting soil with a lot of peat moss that is too often. If it is a sandy soil I would make it every 4 days at best. Aloe and jades are both succulent plants that need to dry out well between waterings. You will kill them faster with too much water than with too little. I'm north of Fort Wayne, IN so we are in similar climates. Good luck.

AnswerAmanda,
I'm sorry, I misread earlier. Since they are in small pots and you are dramatically increasing the light I suspect they will need watered every 10-14 days or even sooner if they seem very dry. I would wait until March 1st then start fertilizing once a month also. By April you may need to repot them into larger pots but only go up to pots 2 inches larger than the old pot. Jades and aloes are both from the plains of Africa so they need about the same light. It sounds like you are doing well. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.
