QuestionDear Will,
How is everything with you, my question is how, when, and how much should I prune a northfork pine tree. The tree is in my home has never been exposed to the outside, and has grown about 5 times its size since I've had it.(its about 5 Ft tall with branches expanded to 3-4 ft) It is very value to me, given as a gift 6 years ago.
thank you,
Ron
AnswerHi Ron,
A Norfolk pine has a single growing tip. Once it is pruned off or damaged, then all new growth ceases. This can also sometimes shorten the lifespan of the tree.
This is a problem with Norfolk pines as indoor plants as they eventually outgrow their indoor spaces. All I can suggest is that you continue to live with it un-pruned as long as you can. When it gets too tall, then prune off the growing tip and don't expect it to grow any more.
