I have had this peace lilly for almost a year it was doing great. I have not changed how I care for it I let it droop a bit b4 i water it & test the soil also before i do .....it is in a well lit location without direct sun but now the leaves are torn & have brown edges with brown spots through out & i have heard to cut those back & i have heard to let it dry out real good & start over....which should I do ? it does not flower any more except in the center where new leaf growth is, there is lil flowers but they are real short almost like i knew plant growing in the middle...if i should cut back the bad leaves it will be much smaller also how do i cut them if I do & how far down?

Renee,

How did the leaves get torn, do you have pets? If the whole leaf is brown cut it off with sharp scissors at the base of the leaf stem. If it is just brown spots on the leaves make sure you let the plant get very dry between waterings and an hour after watering it you need to empty the drain tray so it is not sitting in a swamp. Next time you water first sprinkle 2 teaspoons of epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) on top of the soil before you water it. That will trigger more blooming. You did not say whether you have fertilized it in the last year or not. I suggest that you fertilize it once a month with a water soluable fertilizer for blooming plants such as Miracle Grow. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.

Answer
Renee,

Fertilizer will help it regrow faster and bloom more but do not use too much, follow the instructions on the package and just fertilize it once a month. I would not cut off all the shredded leaves at once, mainly just the brown ones. If you cut off all the green shredded leaves at onceit will slow down the plant regrowing a lot. Even though they are shredded they feed the plant. So cut off a few at a time as the plant grows new leaves. Good luck.
