QuestionI have a plant that was given to me about 8 years ago. At that time I was told it was a Ti plant. It was about ten inches tall with 12 inch long, narrow (about 1/2 inch wide), dark green leaves. Over the years this plant has grown to about five feet tall with a cluster of the long, narrow leaves at the top of a 1/2 diameter stalk. I am wondering if this is a Ti plant variety and if I can cut the plant back and reroot the part of the plant that was cut off.
AnswerHi Sue,
Although I really cannot identify a plant without a picture, I would say that from your description it definitely sounds like a Madagascar Dragon Tree. It is a member of the Dracaena family.
You can cut the plant back and reroot the cutting. Make a diagonal cut through the stem at least 6-8 inches from the top, dip the cut end in rooting hormone and plant in fresh soil.
About 2 or 3 new shoots should sprout from the remaining stem.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks
Tracy
