-----Question-----
When taking leaf cuttings can you do so from a dumbcane, and also does the soil have to vermiculite or perlite, and does it have to have sand.....can it be in water like with the pothos cuttings
-----Answer-----
Hi Tracy
Dieffenbachia (Dumbcane) can not be propagated by leaf cuttings, they are propagated by stem tip cuttings, cane cuttings, air layering or division. Dieffenbachia cuttings need to be put in soil.
Soil should have perlite. I usually also add vermiculite to my soil as it helps hold moisture as well as creating air spaces. Sand is added to soil when extra drainage is needed.
If you have any questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask.

Answer
Hi Tracy,
It is not too much at all. I am here to answer your questions and to explain to you how to whatever it is you want, if I can.
The best and easiest was to propagate a Dieffenbachia is a stem tip cutting. With a sharp knife or very sharp scissors cut the top 6 inches or so off of a stem/trunk, remove the lower leaves leaving about 2-3 leaves at the top, dip the cut end in rooting hormone and sick it in moist fresh soil. The part of the stem that is left will start to regrow and it will also produce new stems that when they are big enough can be cut off and propagated. I have several Dieffenbachia that I had got this way. Sometimes a stem will sprout from a part of the stem that is under the surface of the soil which would make it appear to be growing up from the soil.
I hope this helps, If you have additional questions or need additional information please don't hesitate to ask
I hope this helps.
