QuestionI have never seen the inch long brown tips with 1/8 inch of yellow behind the brown on my spider plant in 15 years.I know it isn`t old-age, is it?It looks like the tips are dipped into something...toxic.Will welcome any suggestions. Thank you.
AnswerHi Cindy,
All it takes is a single episode of under or over watering to cause the leaf-tipping that you described.
Another possibility is that if your tap water is hard, then the minerals have gradually built up around the roots and caused the root and tip burn. If that is the case, then use filtered or distilled water instead.
Finally, check to be sure that your Spider plant has not become potbound and/or has roots wandering out of the drainage holes. Roots exposed to air will dry out and cause leaf-tipping.
Once you have corrected the cause, then trim off the damaged tips and you should not have any additional tipping.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
