QuestionI just got a bromeliad about a week or two ago. I have no idea how to care for it. I live in apartment, with a house cat that I was afraid would try to eat it, (she is a chewer) so I was keeping it on our porch in the shade. The bottom leaves started turning yellow on one side, my husband attributed that to the chilly weather we've been having recently. I live in North Central Florida, so it's usually sunny but not always. He said I should bring it inside. So it is inside now since last night, but I don't know how to care for it really. What type of sunlight does it need? Does the cold kill them? And what fertilizer regiment should I use?
AnswerRachel,
My best guess is it needs more sun and warmth. Most bromeliads like the sun but without knowing what kind of bromeliad you have I cannot be sure. If you know what kind it is email me back, if not email me a picture to
[email protected] and I will tell you what you have. Fertilizer also depends on what type of bromeliad it is. Put "bromeliad identity" in the subject line if you send me a picture. Good luck.
