Corn Plant 20ft tall

Question
I have this beautiful full corn plant in the corner of my
living room.  It was doing great.  All of a sudden now it's developing these faint white spots on the leaves.  What gives?  And...some of the tips of the leaves are brown(crunchy) and some are turning yellow? ????? HELP !

Answer
Hi Kim,

White spots are usually caused by direct sun damage, although not always. Protect your corn plant from the direct sun shining directly on the leaves.

The brown tips and yellow leaves are generic symptoms that have many causes. The most common would be water/root related. Corn plants do best in relatively small pots that are watered when the top quarter of the soil feels dry. If your water is on the hard side, then use filtered or distilled water instead.

If your corn plant has been in the same pot for many years, check to see if any roots are wandering out of the drainage holes.

If you fertilize, use it at half strength.

Light could be a problem if the top leaves are now above window height.

Finally, it is normal for corn plants to lose some of their lower leaves as they grow taller. If the leaf discoloration is limited to the lowest leaves, then it is probably not a problem.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
