QuestionI'v had my umbrella tree for one year and is 1ft tall and is in a 14" pot. some of the lower leaves have brown spots on them and some are curled they are all still green and the top leaves have a few brown spots. It still looks Healthy though. what should i do to stop this?
AnswerHi Kyle,
It is hard for me to assess the problem based on the information provided. Leaf spots are often nothing more than blemishes or imperfections and can be ignored. They may also result from scale insects or from improper watering or light.
You can either email me a photo of the plant to
[email protected] or send me a more detailed description of the spots, including what percentage of the leaves have the spots, where on the leaves the spots are located and whether the spots are flat or slightly raised.
I also need information on the light you are providing and your watering routine. It would also be helpful if you could provide the correct botanical name, as several plants are commonly called umbrella plants. If you send a photo, I can provide the botanical name for you.
One concern I have, based on what you have told me, is that a 14" pot is way too big for a one-foot plant. This oversized pot may be causing root rot.
I look forward to your reply so I can better assist you.

Will Creed
