QuestionDear Darlene,
I have just brought a Pleomele Reflexa (5ft tall)and Ficus Benjamina (braided, 5ft). The PR is indoors where it receives morning sun and otherwise bright light. The FB is also indoors, but receives no direct sunlight, but does get fairly bright light.
Could you please tell me how ofetn they should be watered and any other knowledge that may be useful regarding the care of the trees.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Sasa
AnswerSasa,
I'm so glad that you asked me before you have problems. You should reverse the position of the plants. The PR needs bright light but no sun, you should be able to read a paperback novel where it is sitting without additional light. The FB needs as much sun as possible.
Watering should be when the top 2 inches of soil are very dry. Stick a toothbick in to test. During the winter with shorter days it will take longer for the plants to dry out than during the summer. During the summer they may need watered every 5-7 days, during winter every 7-14 days. It also depends on how dry the air is in your home. Fertilize once a month.
If you have more questions write again. Good luck.
