QuestionIt's vine-y with dark green, velvety leaves that have small silver splotches on them. Can you provide any care information?
I bought it a few days ago and it's sitting 3' or 4' from a east window. A couple of tendrils (one w/1 leaf and another w/5) were about to fall out of the pot and were hanging on literally by the roots. I took them out (w/roots) and potted them in 2" and 3" pots. Do you think they have a chance of surviving? Do you think I might have damaged main plant's roots by digging out the smaller plants' roots? They came right up and I didn't really have to dig around...Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
AnswerHi Cynthia,
Your silver Philodendron requires the same care as most other Philodendrons.
It has a small root system so keep it in a small pot. Your selection of 2/3" pots for the cuttings was appropriate, although I would have combined them in one pot as each plant will never have more than one vine unless you combine them.
A north windowsill or a few feet back from an east window are good locations.
Allow the top half-inch of soil to dry out in between thorough waterings. Skip the fertilizer and don't bother to mist or try to raise the humidity.
The survival of the transplanted vines will depend on your ability to keep the moisture content of the soil at the right level, as described above.
As long as the roots of the original plant were not disturbed very much, then it should be fine.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
