QuestionI bought a cute little bonzai fica tree (14" tall) from a person out of the bed of thier truck a few weeks ago. I placed it into my office exposed to sun through a window (facing west). Every couple of days I'll water a little. It gets a bit cooler in here overnight, (thermostat is lowered) The leaves are now turning yellow and falling off! Will this plant/tree bloom again in the spring? Or is it dying because of the cold, or not enough sun. The owner told me it was planted ten years ago. Help me keep it alive!
AnswerJavier,
I believe that you are watering it too much or too little. It needs to get dry between watering but not be dry for more than a day or 2. It also does not like to sit in a tray of water for days. Ficus trees do not bloom. The coolness at night is not a problem. It does love the sun, the more the better but the western exposure should be fine, just be sure not to shut the blinds or drapes. Fix the water problem and it can grow new leaves right away. Good luck.
