QuestionI had a corn plant that died about two years ago. I did not throw it away because I had some pretty vines growing up the corn plant so I continued to use it to hold them up. Well, after becoming very ill and not caring for the vines, they died out as well. I continued to keep the pot and would water and feed what was left. Last week I took the entire clay pot and soaked it in the sink full of water. Well, the vines are springing into life and so is the corn plant. I noticed a new nodule with a green spike coming out of the side of the stalk. How should I care for this stalk?
AnswerHi Gwendolyn,
Good news! Sometimes soil gets so dry that it doesn't absorb water unless it is soaked in a sink as you did. Perhaps that explains the sudden revival.
Can you tell me where the new shoot is coming out of the corn plant cane? Is it near the top of the cane or just above the soil? Believe it or not, the location does make a difference.
