QuestionHi!
I have 3 plants that are outside at the time. I live in Mississippi. I was wondering how to care for them during the winter months. They are about 3 to 4 feet tall. My home is heated by butane so I do not have any heat on at all during the day while I am at work....and I live in a very old house with NO insulation... Is there any way they can survive thru the winter??? Please, help... I lost one to over watering. Thanks!!
AnswerHi Dee,
If you can survive, I suspect your Hibiscus can! Hibiscus can withstand temps close to, but not below, freezing. I hope it does not get that cold in your house.
Place in in a sunny window. Allow the soil to get dry about one-third of the way down into the pot in between waterings. Do NOT fertilize it during the winter months. It may lose some leaves and it will not grow very much. The point is to keep it alive and then prune it back substantially in the spring just before you move it back outside.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
