QuestionMy sister lives in Florida and my son lives in North Carolina. When I visit, i see these beautiful Lantana plants. I would like to try and grow this in my home in Columbus, Ohio. I have a window that faces south and gets year-round sun. It is actually too much sun for many of my indoor plants. Would this work to successfully grow lantana indoors and if so, how should I go about it?
I was thinking of taking a few cuttings of my sister's lantana home with me to Ohio.
AnswerHi Linda,
Lantana is not a good indoor plant choice unless you have a greenhouse or conservatory where you can provide direct sun from all sides. Lantanas require lots of direct sun if they are to flower and that is the whole point to having them.
Of course you can try it, but keep your expectations low. If you do, keep it potbound with evenly moist soil in the warmer months and drier in the winter. Keep temps cooler at night and in the winter. Watch out for spider mites especially in the drier winter months.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
