QuestionThank you! The spider mites seemed to be gone for a week or so, but now I can see that they are back, fewer but still there. Should I try the soap and water solution again? Or is there another option?

-----Question-----
Hello,
My asparagus fern has small reddish bugs that are forming tiny webs where the leaves meet the branch stem. They seem to especially be affecting the new growth. Is there a way to save my plant? What treatment does it need?
Thank you,
Erika
-----Answer-----
Hi Erika,
Your fern has a spider mite infestation. A very thorough drenching of ALL stems and leaves with a solution of liquid soap and water should eliminate the problem. If possible, fill the sink with soapy water (as if you were going to wash dishes), then turn your plant upside down and swish all of the stems around in the soapy water for about a minute. This will assure complete coverage, and that is the key to success.
Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.

AnswerHi Erika,
I am very surprised that you are seeing spider mites a week after treating them. I know that soapy water smothers them so I can only conclude the you missed some of them the first time. So definitely, respray them with the soap solution.
There are other alternatives, including miticides, but they also require thorough coverage.
