MOVING HYBISCUS INDOORS

Question
We have/had a hybiscus outdoors in New England for several months. It bloomed perfectly every day. We wanted to bring it indoors for the winter and before frost, however, it immediately shriveled up and looks dead now. Pot may be packed too tightly with soil. No drainage out of pot either. All leaves have dried out immediately although trunk looks like it still might have life. We do not have a good direct sunlight area either. Wanted to keep this beautiful tree for next spring, however, it would seem that this one might be a learning experience.

It has been repotted for approx 7 days...and all leaves are dried out and buds are gone.

Any hope to fix this quick?

Thanks

Answer
Pat,

Since it shriveled the buds have all dropped also. I reccomend cutting each branch in half. You say it has been repotted for 7 days. Is this in the pot with no drainage hole?  What size is the pot?

There is a good chance that you can save your plant, if you cut it back in half, put it in a 10-12 inch diameter pot that has a drainage hole and put it in the sunniest location possible or put it under flourescent lights. Then water it once a week or whenever the surface of the soil feels dry to the touch. The plant is very resilient and should soon sprout new leaves. It will not bloom until spring when you can sit it back outdoors, but it should survive. Good luck.
