wax on spider plant

Question
I have a medium sized spider plant with green leafs and a white stripe down the center.  It has no babies.  I water it a couple times a week normally with diluted water, sometimes water out of the tap.  I have had it at least a year, but I am not sure how old it is.  There is strange green wax, white powdery substance growing on the leaves.  I'm not sure what is wrong with it.

Answer
Tricia,

It sounds like a fungus problem to me. Spray it daily with Lysol spray for 2 weeks and it should help. Also cut back on the watering. It should be watered thoroughly every 7 - 10 days and allowed to dry out well between waterings. It also should be in the sunniest location available in your home. It should never be repotted. It will survive better and porduce babies if it is rootbound. Good luck.
