AnswerHello,
I am an expert in the care of houseplants, including Crotons. However, I am not a biologist nor a botanist, so I cannot explain the biological processes involved in root development. I do know only that the hormones that produce roots are triggered when the stem nodes are in contact with constant moisture - either water or damp soil. Beyond that, I cannot help you.
I suggest that you find a botanist to help you with your research.
Regards,
Will Creed
