What are these

Question
I have never seen such a thing like this...I watered and add some more soil to a spider plant that I have had for years TODAY around noon.  I then came home from work and there is a web made from a few leaves stretch from side to side a foot or so, and there are inch worm looking worms crawling the webing and ALOT of the worms are only gathered on one small leaf.  These worms are actually "inching" just like inch worms, around the strings of web...what are they and what do I do?           Thanks!

Answer
Hi Cathy,

Those are not pests that ordinarily infect indoor potted plants. I would expect to see them on a plant that is outside. Perhaps they were introduced with the soil that you added.

I suggest that you spray the pests and the webs with a solution of rubbing alcohol and liquid soap. Wait 24-48 hours and repeat the spray if you see any live critters remaining.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
